Golden Valley wind energy facility

Golden Valley wind energy facility is a 120MW onshore wind project. The project is situated near to the towns of Bedford, Cookhouse, Adelaide and Somerset East. The facility is located within the Blue Crane Route Local Municipality, within the Sarah Baartman District Municipality.

The project was awarded preferred bidder status under the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Programme (REIPPPP) bid window 4 in 2015 and reached financial close in 2018. The project commenced construction in the same year and reached commercial operations in May 2021. The project consists of 48 2.5MW Gold Wind permanent magnetic direct drive turbines.

The facility generates 480GWh per annum supplying an estimated 104,000 households with clean sustainable energy.

Like all the BTE Renewable projects, the project is investing in economic and socioeconomic development initiatives for the betterment of the local communities and these initiatives will continue throughout the lifespan of the project.
